Fred Hoar has shaped communications, investor relations and marketing strategies for some of America's seminal companies, from Apple to Fairchild to RCA. He was named one of the "Top 100 Most Influential Public Relations People of the 20th Century" by PRWEEK.

Mr. Hoar joined Miller/Shandwick Technologies in Mountain View, California in 1989 as president of Miller West. He later became chairman of the global public relations agency and of Shandwick's Technologies Practice. Shandwick was acquired by the Interpublic Group in 2000. Mr. Hoar left the firm in 2002 and is now a branding and public relations consultant and Dean’s Executive Professor of Marketing at Santa Clara University. He is also a co-founder of the Silicon Valley Band of Angels investment group.

Mr. Hoar was vice president, communications for Apple Computer from 1980 to 1984, involved with taking the company public and launching the Lisa and Macintosh computers. He served as vice president, communications for Fairchild Camera and Instrument; vice president corporate communications for Genentech; director worldwide communications for Raychem, and division vice president, public affairs and advertising for RCA in New York.

A frequent keynote speaker, he has addressed the Conference Board, the Commonwealth Club, the Churchill Club, the JA Business Hall of Fame, the Munich Business Angels, the Singapore International Foundation, the Software Development Forum, Robertson Stephens, The Indus Entrepreneurs, the Asian-American Management Association, Capital Club Forum, the American Electronics Association, Lehman Brothers, Technologic Partners, Dataquest, the Semiconductor Industry Association and the Association for Corporate Growth.

His interests are wide-ranging, from high-tech marketing to politics, literature and teaching. "If you get, give; if you learn; teach," he says. He quotes Churchill in his speeches including: "However beautiful the strategy, you occasionally should look at the results."

Mr. Hoar received an A.B. cum laude in American history and literature from Harvard and an M.A. with honors in journalism from the University of Iowa. He began his career with the Associated Press and as an instructor in English and journalism at the University of Northern Iowa. He is an advisory board member of the Churchill Club, Commonwealth Club, Junior Achievement of Santa Clara County, Pacific Enterprise Capital and Santa Clara University’s School of Business. The father of four, he lives with his wife, Sheila, in Palo Alto, California.
