Dean O. Morton was born in 1932 in Wichita, KS. He holds a
Bachelor of Science degree in electronics from Kansas State
University and a master's degree in business administration from
Harvard University.
Mr. Morton joined Hewlett-Packard in 1960 as a marketing trainee
and subsequently served as marketing manager of the Frequency and
Time Division. In 1965, he was named engineering manager of the
Medical Electronics Division, and later became that division's general
manager. Mr. Morton was elected a vice president in 1973, and a
year later was appointed manager of the Medical Products Group in
Waltham, MA. In 1977, he was elected an executive vice president
and was named to oversee the company's operations in medical,
analytical and component products.
In 1984, Mr. Morton was named chief operating officer, and in
1988, he became general manager of the Computer Business
Organization and served as chairman of the company's Computer
Business Executive Committee. When Hewlett-Packard realigned its
computer-business activities in 1990, Mr. Morton was named to the
Chief Executive Office.
Prior to his retirement in 1992, Mr. Morton was executive vice
president, chief operating officer and director of the company. He
and John Young comprised HP's Chief Executive Office and were
responsible for overall company management.
Mr. Morton has been active on numerous corporate and nonprofit
boards. Included in those are the likes of ALZA Corporation, BEA
Systems, The Clorox Company and KLA-Tencor Corporation. He
is on the Board of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals, the
David and Lucille Packard Foundation, the Monterey Bay Aquarium
Research Institute and is chairman of the Center for Excellence in
Nonprofits.
In 1992, the Harvard Business School honored Mr. Morton with the
Alumni Achievement Award for outstanding professional
accomplishments. |
