After receiving his BA in Economics and a BS in Industrial Engineering from
Yale University in 1942, Tom Ford went on to earn an LLB from the
University of Michigan School of Law in 1949. He then served in the South
Pacific as a Naval officer during WW II.

Since coming to the Bay Area Mr. Ford had been very involved with
Stanford University and other community organizations. He was a member
of the Stanford Athletic Board, from 1980 to 1990 he served on the
University’s Board of Trustees. Mr Ford was also active on Advisory
Boards for Stanford’s Center for Economic Policy and Research, and the
Haas Center for Public Service. Additionally, Mr. Ford served as a Trustee
of Children’s Hospital at Stanford and the Peninsula Open Space Trust. In
1989, he received the Koshland Award from the Peninsula Community
Foundation for Outstanding Involvement in Community Service.

In 1964, Mr. Ford founded Ford Land Company, and served as its
Managing Partner until his untimely death in 1998. Before that he was
associated with Stanford University as legal counsel and director of land
development. While there he helped guide the inception and expansion of
Stanford Research Park.

Ford Land Company is a real estate investment firm which develops and
operates office and research buildings on the peninsula. These include 3000
Sand Hill Road in Menlo Park, known internationally as a center of
venture capital and entrepreneurship.
