As part of its 50th Anniversary celebrations, Junior Achievement of Silicon Valley & Monterey Bay is holding its first Bowlathon in the city of Monterey, co-hosted with the Monterey Hospitality HR Network

Date:  Saturday, June 14, 2003

Where:  Monterey Bowling Lanes, 2161 North Fremont Street., Monterey, Calif.

Time:  1:00 to 3:00 p.m. with team registration beginning at 12:30 p.m.

What:  As part of our yearlong 50th Anniversary celebration, Junior Achievement of Silicon Valley and Monterey Bay is holding its first Bowlathon in the city of Monterey, co-hosted by the Monterey Hospitality HR Network.  About 24 employee teams from many different hospitality-associated companies around the city of Monterey will bowl to raise money to expand Junior Achievement programs in Monterey County.  Employee teams will have a lot of fun competing with each other, with each bowler having asked their colleagues, friends, and families to pledge money for their bowling success.  As important, these companies want to be involved with Junior Achievement because they will give back to the community in a way that can impact the kids who will ultimately enter the local workforce.  Dorian Oliphant of the Doubletree Hotel in Monterey, as a strong JA supporter, said, "The Monterey Hospitality HR Network is supporting Junior Achievement because we believe that you have to start early in a child's development to instill the desire to stay in school and learn to be a productive citizen in our society.  The Hospitality industry is an honorable and lucrative profession.  We need to groom our future workforce to maintain Monterey's reputation as being a national leader in travel and tourism.  We owe this support to our local school district(s) during this downturn in our state and local economies.  This investment of our time and energy in Monterey's youth will pay our community back in many positive ways for years to come"
